A true time-capsule 1982 Renault 5 TL

Some finds are special, and then there are genuine time capsules-like this 1982 Renault 5 TL, unearthed with just 12 km showing on the odometer. We have already covered this unique example before, but it has returned to the spotlight: it has been cleaned, carefully detailed and is now ready for the fall of the hammer.

Stored exactly as it left the showroom

Bought brand new in October 1982, it was never actually driven by its owner. It did not even have its permanent registration plates fitted. Instead, it was put away exactly as it came from the dealer, keeping its plastics, fabrics and even that unmistakable new-car smell-something that is virtually impossible to recreate today.

Specification: “Bleu Schiste métallisé”, 1108 cm³ and a four-speed manual

This is the five-door version, finished in “Bleu Schiste métallisé”, and fitted with the 1108 cm³ engine paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. It is a modest set-up, but entirely representative of the small hatchbacks typical of the 1980s.

Aguttes: La Vente de Printemps, 15 March in Paris

It is now due to be auctioned by Aguttes at the La Vente de Printemps sale on 15 March, in Paris. The estimate sits between 5000 and 10 000 euros. For a Renault 5 with only 12 km that appears to be genuinely factory-fresh, it could well turn out to be a bargain.
