New Lexus IS revealed in first images, but it will be North America only

Lexus has just unveiled the first images of the new generation of its IS. According to the brand, the car has been developed with driving at the forefront, although sales will be limited to North America.

Launched in 1999 as the Japanese marque’s sportiest offering, the IS has since attracted more than 1.3 million customers across around 40 countries. Even so, Europe is not on the launch list for this new generation.

Engine options and why the new Lexus IS is not sold in Europe

The explanation is straightforward. For this generation, the only powertrain on offer is a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre petrol V6, with no electrified assistance whatsoever. In other words, it does not suit the current realities of the European car market-particularly when it comes to emissions targets.

With this unit, customers can choose rear-wheel drive or a permanent all-wheel-drive system. In both cases the gearbox is automatic, but it comes with eight or six speeds, respectively.

Lexus also promises an even more precise and polished driving experience, helped by updates to components such as the steering and suspension.

Lexus IS 350 design changes and F-Sport equipment

From the outside, the biggest changes are found in the redesigned front and rear sections. The styling is sharper and more aggressive, in line with the brand’s most recent releases. For the new Lexus IS 350, there are two equipment grades (F-Sport Design and F-Sport), new 19-inch alloy wheels, and new exterior paint options, including a previously unseen shade called “Wind”.

A typically Lexus cabin

Inside, the look and feel remains recognisably Lexus, marked by the debut of a new “Forged Bamboo” texture on the centre console, along with a sportier “Radiant Red” theme reserved exclusively for Lexus F-Sport models.

On the technology front, highlights include a fully digital instrument cluster offering two display modes. In the centre of the dashboard sits a touch-sensitive central control screen of the same size which, the brand says, is now more intuitive to use.

Safety has moved on as well, with Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 fitted as standard. This package includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, traffic sign recognition, automatic emergency braking, and a new proactive driving assist feature.

New Lexus IS will not come to Europe

Despite these selling points-and as noted above-the new IS will not be coming to Europe. The model has been conceived specifically for North American markets, where it still enjoys demand and relevance, unlike in Europe.

In the UK and across Europe, attention remains focused on the new Lexus ES. This is a newer, larger and more advanced proposition, offered with hybrid and 100% electric versions. Its arrival is expected in spring 2026, and you can find more details on the model-presented at the Shanghai Motor Show-in this article written by Guilherme Costa:
