Hyundai Ioniq in China: from model range to mobility ecosystem
Hyundai is taking its Ioniq electric-vehicle brand up a level in China, shifting it from a simple line-up of cars into a fully fledged mobility ecosystem. The initiative is being developed around local technologies and partnerships, while still following Hyundai’s own safety and quality standards.
Models are named after planets
A standout change is a new naming approach: vehicles will be given planet names, creating an “Ioniq universe” in which the customer is positioned as the central point. The idea is meant to highlight a more personal EV ownership experience and deepen the emotional connection with the brand.
The “Ioniq universe” puts the customer at the centre
By building a planet-based family of models, Hyundai intends to frame Ioniq as a cohesive world rather than a set of unrelated products, with each name helping to reinforce the character of the experience around the owner.
First concepts in the new Hyundai Ioniq philosophy: Venus and Earth
The first concepts introduced under this new philosophy are Venus and Earth. Venus is presented as a refined saloon with a “shining gold” design theme, an emphasis on premium materials, and atmospheric lighting.
“A driver-focused interior combines multi-layer lighting, contrasting premium materials and a playful ‘luminescent’ colour, creating a fully immersive effect.”
Earth, by contrast, is a crossover concept designed around practicality, comfort, and a thoughtfully planned cabin.
“Its Aurora Shield exterior blends sharp edges with sculpted volumes and robust detailing, while inside a calm ‘little Earth’ is created, providing a comfortable, open space. Innovative air-processed seats, nature-inspired lighting, unobtrusive technology solutions and hidden references to Beijing.”
