The new Kia EV5 now has official pricing for Portugal. The line-up comes in two trim levels (Tech and GT-Line), with the entry point set at 49 990 euros. If you want the sportier-looking version, the starting figure rises to 53 490 euros.
Powertrain for the Kia EV5 in Portugal
Whichever trim you choose, the EV5 is front-wheel drive. It uses an electric motor rated at 160 kW (218 hp) and 295 Nm of torque. Both versions also share the same battery: 81.4 kWh.
Kia EV5 charging, range and consumption
For rapid charging (DC), peak power is 150 kW, which is enough to go from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes. On AC charging, the onboard charger is 11 kW, in line with many rivals in this class.
Range figures vary depending on trim, with 520 km for the Tech and 505 km for the GT-Line (WLTP combined cycle). The quoted average consumption numbers are different too: 17.1 kWh/100 km and 17.8 kWh/100 km, respectively.
Positioning, dimensions and boot space
Kia says the new EV5 is neatly "slotted in" between the smaller, more compact EV3 and the much larger EV9, designed with family duties in mind. Despite appearances, the Kia EV5 measures 4.61 m long, 1.875 m wide and 1.68 m tall. Wheelbase is 2.75 m, and luggage capacity is 566 litres.
Initially launched in China (and built there), the EV5 has been updated in several areas to match European customer tastes and requirements. To begin with, the "European" EV5 will be manufactured in South Korea to avoid tariffs. It also swaps the Chinese model’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for a nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) unit, while the steering/chassis tuning and the equipment line-up are tailored specifically for Europe.
Kia EV5: Tech or GT-Line?
As noted above, the Tech and GT-Line versions are priced at 49 990 euros and 53 490 euros, respectively. According to the brand, these are on-the-road figures for private buyers, with no asterisks and no surprises. Because it is fully electric, companies can reclaim VAT, with prices starting at 39 016 euros (excluding VAT).
Even in entry-level Tech form, standard equipment is already generous. You get an extensive suite of safety systems, three-zone climate control, a wide fully digital instrument display, plus the near-essential Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
GT-Line brings a sportier look and a stronger tech focus. Highlights include a unique steering wheel design, sports pedals, more electric adjustment for the front seats, and the V2L function-ideal for powering external devices using the Kia EV5’s battery.
On both trims, the options list is short. Metallic paint costs 550 euros, while the panoramic sunroof-available only on the GT-Line-costs 1000 euros.
