The Audi A5 line-up has gained a new addition in the form of the e-hybrid plug-in hybrid versions. They will be offered in both Avant and Limousine bodystyles, with two power outputs: 220 kW (299 cv) and 270 kW (367 cv), and all models come with quattro all-wheel drive.

Audi A5 e-hybrid: powertrain, range and efficiency

The plug-in hybrid set-up pairs a 2.0 TFSI petrol engine (252 cv) with a 105 kW (143 cv) electric motor integrated into the seven-speed S tronic automatic gearbox. In electric-only driving, maximum range can reach 109 km (WLTP), while the combined average fuel consumption sits between 2,0-2,7 l/100 km depending on the version.

Battery, charging and energy regeneration

A key update is the high-voltage battery, which now provides 20,7 kWh of usable capacity-around 45% more than the previous generation. Audi says this increase should allow most everyday journeys to be completed in 100% electric mode.

For AC charging, a full charge can be completed in 2,5 hours at 11 kW. Previously, the maximum charging power was 7,4 kW.

Alongside the new battery, Audi has also enhanced regenerative braking on the A5 plug-in hybrid, with a peak recovery rate of 88 kW. As on some electric cars, steering-wheel paddles are now fitted, allowing the driver to adjust the level of energy recuperation.

In terms of operating modes, the system offers “EV”, which prioritises electric driving, and “Hybrid”, which adapts to the driving style and route.

Performance figures include 0–100 km/h in 5,1s for the 270 kW (367 cv) version and 5,9s for the 220 kW (299 cv) model. Both are limited to a top speed of 250 km/h.

Equipment and prices

Orders for the new Audi A5 e-hybrid models open from the start of April, with the first cars expected to arrive in Portugal in June. Pricing starts at 5800 euros:

All versions feature three-zone automatic climate control, a navigation system, a digital instrument cluster, and wireless smartphone charging.

More powerful variants with the 367 cv system also come with 19-inch wheels, sports suspension, LED plus lighting, brakes with red calipers, the S line exterior package, and the Visual Black pack, which includes tinted windows.
