The Hyundai Inster is the South Korean brand’s new entry-level electric car, and it stands out for a distinctive look that is anything but aggressive. Now, however, Hyundai seems to have found its “evil twin”, which is due to be unveiled next April: the Insteroid.
Yes, you guessed it: it is essentially a Hyundai Inster on the kind of anabolic-steroid diet you only see in fiction.
Hyundai Insteroid and its video-game inspiration
Hyundai says the Insteroid was designed to make us smile, and that it draws inspiration from the world of video games.
For the moment, only teasers exist. Even so, what they reveal is an Inster that looks ready to take on the WRC-or to tackle the “race to the clouds” at Pikes Peak.
Rally-style aero upgrades for the Hyundai Insteroid
From the outside, the Hyundai Insteroid shows off an enormous rear wing, matched by fresh aerodynamic add-ons elsewhere on the body.
The wheel arches are also dramatically wider than those of the production model, and they house 21-inch wheels with smooth covers intended to help airflow and improve aerodynamics.
Inside: a safety cell and little else
In the cabin, a safety cell is clearly visible, and not much more. But before we get to know this project properly, here is the Inster… “normal”:
