“We aim to seize this opportunity as a launchpad for the next decade, presenting models that embody Genesis’s pursuit of high-performance technology and the luxury design of the future.”
Those were the words of Mike Song, Genesis’s global chief, spoken as the brand unveiled the X Gran Coupe Concept and X Gran Convertible Concept-two show cars created to mark Genesis’s 10-year anniversary and hint at what comes next.
10 years of Genesis: X Gran Coupe Concept and X Gran Convertible Concept
Genesis is positioning that next chapter around sharper distinction, richer luxury and greater prestige across its line-up-and few body styles communicate that intent as clearly as a flagship coupé and a flagship convertible.
Design differences from the G90
Unlike several previous Genesis concepts, these two are based on the G90, the firm’s range-topping saloon and a rival to the Mercedes S-Class. That connection adds weight to the idea that they could eventually make the leap into production.
Even so, they depart from the G90 in more than just their unique silhouettes. Both sit lower, feature a more steeply raked windscreen and adopt a two-door layout, while also gaining widened wheelarches and bespoke touches such as a 3D grille.
Cabin inspiration and materials
Inside, Genesis looked to Mediterranean olive trees for the X Gran Coupe’s colours and materials. For the X Gran Convertible, the cabin palette takes its cues from the tones of grapes used to produce Cabernet Sauvignon wine.
The remaining question is whether Genesis will move beyond intent and turn this distinctive duo into reality.
