Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 Roadster create a one-off hybrid

The return of the "Supra" badge to Toyota’s line-up was widely celebrated, though not universally. For many, the fact it was essentially a BMW Z4 underneath brought out plenty of scepticism. Even so, the end product was a distinctive coupé and a genuinely engaging car to drive.

Toyota Supra name returns - and the BMW Z4 connection

With that background, someone in Japan decided to see how far the two related models’ parts could be mixed and matched.

One-off Toyota Z4 Roadster or BMW Supra Roadster?

The outcome is right here to see: the (only) Toyota Z4 Roadster… or is it a BMW Supra Roadster?

At its core it remains - quite literally - a BMW Z4 Roadster, but the entire front section has been swapped for that of the Toyota Supra coupé.

The oversized bonnet, headlamps, bumpers and wings are all Supra items, while everything else has been left as it was.

Sadly, we haven’t been able to find any photos showing the conversion being carried out, but it’s hard to imagine this as the sort of job you can tackle in a home garage. After all, the styling of the two cars is markedly different.

Even so, the final look is surprisingly (very) attractive, and it does make you wonder whether Toyota missed a great chance to build a Supra Roadster.
