The Citroën Ami was never built for this. It’s an electric quadricycle with 8 cv, capped at 45 km/h, designed as an affordable, slow-moving urban alternative. But Britain’s DM Performance decided it needed a bit more “spice” and produced what can only be described as a Super-Ami.
From Citroën Ami city runabout to Super-Ami
Instead of the standard motor, they removed the original unit and fitted something around 10 times more powerful.
Stark Varg motor: 80 cv and 938 Nm
The new motor comes from a Stark Varg electric motorbike and puts out 80 cv and a ridiculous 938 Nm of torque (at the wheel?). Yes - you read that correctly. The outcome is a Super-Ami that will melt its front tyres the moment you get heavy-handed with the throttle.
Stronger brakes, coilovers and Porsche 17-inch wheels
To cope with that level of brutality, everything had to be uprated: brakes, suspension (now on coilovers), and the wheels - stepping up from 14″ to 17″ Porsche rims fitted with spacers. The differential also had to be custom-made.
What’s next: a rear motor and an even wilder Hiper-Ami
And the team behind the project still aren’t calling it finished. The next phase is to install a second motor on the rear axle: more power, more torque, and four-wheel drive. A Hiper-Ami…
It’s a mad creation and completely hilarious - and very likely the most fun Citroën Ami on the planet.
