Grok, the artificial intelligence assistant, is now being made available in Tesla vehicles across nine European countries, including Portugal. The feature arrives as part of the latest software update (2026.2.26), which can already be downloaded remotely to all eligible models from the brand.
Created by xAI (another Elon Musk company), Grok is designed to answer questions on a wide range of subjects - from physics and history to biology, mathematics and philosophy. In Tesla cars, however, its role extends well beyond a simple question-and-answer tool.
What Grok can do in a Tesla
As well as general knowledge queries, Grok can support drivers and passengers with practical, in-car tasks.
Grok voice navigation, routes and points of interest
It is now also possible to start navigation commands using only your voice. You can ask Grok to set destinations, alter routes in real time and even recommend points of interest to visit along the way.
Owner’s manual support and maintenance guidance
Among Grok’s various functions is access to the owner’s manual, enabling the virtual assistant to explain instrument-cluster warnings, share good usage practices and suggest maintenance actions.
One Grok, many "personalities"
Another notable part of Grok’s integration is its ability to adopt different “personalities”, depending on what the driver or passengers prefer. It includes standard modes such as: Assistant, Language Tutor, Therapist, Storyteller, Meditation, Doctor and Conspiracy. There are also child-friendly modes, including children’s stories and a quiz-style questions-and-answers game.
In addition, there are further modes intended for over-18s (NSFW, or “not safe for work”), with more suggestive profiles: Unhinged, Sexy, Motivational, Romantic and Argumentative. On top of that, the assistant can also take on different personas - Ara, Eve, Leo, Rex and Sal - each with its own distinct vocal and behavioural traits.
Available in Tesla Model S, 3, X and Y
Grok is being rolled out to Tesla Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y vehicles fitted with AMD Ryzen processors. To activate and use the feature, you need a Premium Connectivity subscription or, alternatively, a stable Wi‑Fi connection.
According to Tesla, conversations are anonymous and are not linked to the vehicle, with the brand stating that the owner’s privacy is therefore protected.
Looking ahead, the integration is expected to become more refined, with access to broader knowledge and additional features, all delivered through automatic software updates.
