Great Wall Motor (GWM), the Chinese automotive heavyweight best known for its SUVs, is preparing a bold move into the supercar arena. The company plans to unveil its first supercar towards the end of 2026, with a clear goal: take on the Ferrari SF90, but at a far lower price point.
According to GWM chairman Wei Jianjun, this will be “the first Chinese sports car in the purest sense of the term”. Autohome News reports that the programme has been in development for roughly four to five years.
The GWM supercar: how the rumours began
Speculation around the new model gathered pace in July 2025, during celebrations for the brand’s 35th anniversary. At the event, a low-slung car with unmistakable supercar proportions appeared in the background-fully covered, but still enough to spark talk about what GWM was building.

Based on information attributed to the manufacturer, the Ferrari SF90 is being used as the benchmark. Reports and rumours point to an in-house-developed 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 paired with a plug-in hybrid system. Combined output is expected to be around 1000 hp, with 0–100 km/h dispatched in under three seconds. Top speed is said to exceed 350 km/h.
Price positioning and China’s new performance wave
Performance is not intended to be the only headline. GWM also wants to package these capabilities at a much more attainable price than Ferrari’s offering. The new supercar is estimated to cost about 2 million yuan (around €240,000 at the current exchange rate), which would be roughly half the price of a Ferrari SF90 in China.
With this announcement, GWM joins a growing list of Chinese brands pushing into higher-performance vehicles-such as BYD with the Yangwang U9 and Xiaomi with the SU7 Ultra-signalling a new era of supercars “made in China”.
